Since all places of worship are closed until the COVID-19 pandemic ends, we are restarting our women’s prayer group online until the end of August. CMY had a Women’s prayer group that met every Wednesday night and then started to meet once a month until we all were forced to practice social distancing. We are now going online in the effort to maximize our online community and bring back the spirit of a world praying together.
WHO SHOULD JOIN US?
Our Prayer Group mainly focuses on reading from the CMY/Nishmati Women’s Jewish Morning Prayers & adds Intercessory prayer towards the end to help our online community. It is in a sense a Messianic and Jewish combined effort since it draws from both the community prayers in the siddur and the individual prayer needs during the intercessory time.
WHO SHOULD NOT JOIN IN…
We are NOT a Christian prayer group and will not focus on any prayers that are not outlined in the above manner. We will use Hebrew and English terms. If anyone has a problem with the Rabbis, sages, or any traditional Jewish understanding of the Bible, please do not join. Also please do not join if you have any issues with teachings from the oral traditions of Judaism, as some prayers, blessings and inspiration comes from the Talmud, Midrash and other Jewish sources. Depending on the person leading the prayer- they may or may not pray in a way that some consider “Messianic”. We try to incorporate both traditional Jewish and Messianic style prayers, but it depends on the tradition the leader has in their home. For example, Keturah and Rabbi Zeke do not say the Messianic versions of some prayers, they recite the traditional Jewish ones. And vice versa, we have members who did not grow up in Jewish homes and only know the Messianic versions and this is ok as well. We accept all ladies in the group but please note that we believe in being Jewish first and ask for everyone to respect the house rules and respect our Jewish and Messianic Jewish traditions. We do not pray in the name of YWVH and do not use it, we ask members to not use this concept. We instead pray in the name of HaShem and Adonai.
WHAT WILL THE PRAYER TIME LOOK LIKE?
We begin with the Jewish morning prayers for women and then will pray over any prayer request received. After that we will chat a bit if needed and make sure that all the ladies have the prayer email if they need further help and encouragement through the weeks until the next prayer meeting.
We will not do any long testimonies or long life stories letting us know the entire history of problems, sins or drama. This makes online and in-person prayer groups chaotic. When meeting together in person, we adopted this same mindset because we noticed when we had an unstructured prayer group, the meetings for go on forever and down rabbit holes when some of the ladies went on rants about their life stories…crying and making a big scene.
To be clear, yes we love you all- but there is a time and place for all things. Individual support that is needed more than the hour of community prayer can be meet through interaction with your peers from the group or an accountability partner for further counseling or prayer OUTSIDE the group prayer time. We will pray over needs as they come in to us via email and if any of the ladies in the group need prayer but we ask to please email in advance so that we can be organized and as structured as possible. If we get a prayer request that is private, it will automatically stay within the scope of the leadership- which is Keturah, Rosemary & Nikki. If a prayer request comes in that is urgent, we will try our best to contact you right away, even if it is before the prayer group.
